1923 Yearbook
Description
MR. LEO MAHONEY
As we, in keeping with our annual custom, place before Ambrosian readers the
records of a few of St. Ambrose's successful Alumni, we feel that we have given real
merit to this year's list by including in it the name of Mr. Leo Mahoney.
During his time spent at St. Ambrose, Mr. Mahoney was a member of the Academic department, graduating with the class of 1918. Recognizing the value of a
professional education, he took up his work in the engineering department of Notre
Dame University. Last year that institution formally recognized his ability in his
chosen profession by conferring upon him the degree of Civil Engineer.
So far Mr. Mahoney's career has been brief but the success which he has crowded
into his single year of engineering is all the more creditable on that account. He first
identified himself with the Pittsburg-Des Moines Steel Co., a widely known concern.
His work here paved the way for his entrance to an even wider field of endeavor. He
is now engaged in the designing and inspecting of the novel type of water system which
is that concern's specialty.
Great as his industry has been, Mr. Mahoney has not made of it an excuse to neglect those social duties so necessary for the development of a man's better nature. On
January 1, 1923, appeared the announcement of his engagement to Miss Julia Lootens
of South Bend. Mr. Mahoney and his bride-to-be have the congratulations and best
wishes of the Ambrosian.
Mr. Mahoney's ability and close application should carry him far in the work which
he has commenced so brilliantly. We hope, indeed we are confident, that time alone
is necessary to enable him to accomplish even greater things. May it be St. Ambrose's
good fortune to produce more Alumni of equal ability.
