Description
REV. JOHN A. GLENN
We who believe in St. Ambrose as a power for good in the field of
Catholic education rejoice that we can support our faith in the institution by such a strong proof as that offered by the life and work of an
Alumnus such as Rev. John A. Glenn of Williamsburg.
Father Glenn first identified himself with St. Ambrose as a student of
Philosophy from which department he graduated in 1899. He took up
his theological studies at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Maryland,
where he was ordained in June, 1902, by Cardinal Gibbons.
St. Ambrose now called upon Father Glenn to return, and to her he
gave the first three years of his priestly life, discharging the arduous
duties of a professor with the same industry and success which had previously characterized his work as a student.
The scene of his endeavors was now shifted from the classroom to the
parish. The good people of Lenox were the beneficiaries of this move.
For five years that parish enjoyed the blessings of his able administration
and priestly care.
After a year spent in Mechanicsville Father Glenn in 1911 was called
to the pastorate of St. Mary's Church, Williamsburg. Here he crowned
his former achievements by the erection of a splendid new church. This
edifice, which was completed last year, represents an expenditure of one
hundred thousand dollars and is one of the most beautiful churches in
Iowa. At the present time, a year after its completion, Father Glenn
has practically cleared the parish of debt.
St. Ambrose feels that she can extend to her Alumnus no better wish
than that his work of the future may be of the same character as that
done in the past.
