Description
St. Patrick's was downed again on the local floor to the tune of 32 to 21. Columbia
Academy took the count in the hands of the Saintlings at Dubuque, 26 to 12. Sweet
revenge was secured over the Geneseo five in the LeClaire gym by a 25 to 17 score.
Again believing that they could turn the trick for the second time, Wheatland High
found to their sorrow that they could not repeat again and went down in defeat, 21
to 15. Cambridge made their annual visit to the local gym and went away on the
small end of a 34 to 19 score.
Spalding Institute came to Davenport for the purpose of slipping over another victory on the Little Saints, but returned to Peoria with a 35 to 19 defeat charged up
against them. Playing in a cracker box gym at Wilton, the Saintlings lost their fifth
game of the season by a count of 24 to 15. The season was brought to a glorious close
by a victory over the St. Bedes quint of Peru, Illinois, in the LeClaire gym, the
Juniors coming out on the heavy end of a 25 to 21 margin.
The Juniors ran up a total of 444 points to their opponents' 322. Costello led the
team in the scoring with 50 field goals and 83 free throws to his credit.
Elmer Besten was chosen as captain and running guard on the first all-Tri-City
prep basketball team while Captain-elect Herlehy and Mike Lawlor received places
on the second team. Wagner received honorable mention.
