ADMINISTRATION
Those whose pictures follow have helped
to guide St. Ambrose into its second century.
The college, founded in 1882, has been
under leadership of Dr. William J. Bakrow
since Sept. 5, 1973. He is the 11th president
and first layman to head St. Ambrose after a
long line of priest leaders, beginning with
Father Aloysius Joseph Schulte, who was
named president in 1882 at age 23.
Before coming to St. Ambrose, Dr. Bakrow
had been director of Motorola Executive
Institute in Arizona. He had received a
bachelor of arts at Brown University and a
master of science and a doctorate in higher
education and public administration from
Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind.
