The St. Ambrose Queen Bee basketball team advanced to the national
tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa,
before losing to Francis Marion of
Florence, S.C.
'This has been the kind of year
coaches dream about," said Coach
Ken Buckles, referring to his team's
29-4 record. "It has just been a super
year."
Team members gained a bushel of
honors. Junior LeAnn Resh and
sophomore Stephanie Smith were
named to the NAIA All-District 15
team.
Smith set scoring and rebound
records at St. Ambrose, with 578
points through the regular season,
breaking Lynda Talley's record of 515
set in 1981-82. Smith collected 243
defensive rebounds, exceeding
Rhonda Pestka's 1979-80 mark of 194,
and she gathered 157 offensive
rebounds to top Talley's mark of 150
set in 1979-80.
Kay LaKose registered eight assists
against Loras to break by three the
record of 181 held by Lynn Rudin.
