Men's Tennis Scores

John Ekelman focuses on the elusive spheroid.
The St. Ambrose men's tennis team won its seventh
straight District 15 title and completed a dual match
record of 24 wins and 11 losses during the 1984 season.
The netters placed first in the Northern Iowa Invitational, second in Illinois State's Redbird Classic, and
third in the St. Ambrose Invitational
The Fighting Bees placed 20th among 51 teams in
the NAIA national in Kansas City, Mo., after sweeping
all nine divisions in District 15 tournament action in
Des Moines.
The Bees got a No. 18 post-season ranking in NAIA.
Tom Johnson, junior from Camanche, Iowa, fin-
shed with a dual match record of 26 and 10; Brian
ihlstrom, East Moline, III. junior, 29 and 8; Miguel
Sayliss, sophomore from Guadalajara, Mexico, 26-10;
Mike Muldowney, Des Plaines, III., junior, 29-8; John
Ekelman, freshman, Grosse Pointe, Mich., 24-12; and
BilI Coffenberry, Bettendorf, Iowa, senior, 24-12.
n doubles, Johnson and Dahistrom finished 22-8
with a No. 13 national ranking in NAIA; Bayliss and
Muldowney, 19 and 8; and Ekelman and Coffenberry,
19 and 9.
Coach Sheldon Weiner said he anticipates another
successful season next time around with everyone
back except Coffenberry, plus the addition of several
promising recruits.
Weiner was honored as NAIA District 15 Coach of
the Year for the seventh straight year.
