Description
GOLF
For the third straight year Reverend Bernard Kamerick directed the golf team through
a rugged schedule of dual and tournament
play. It was not unexpected that his men
would turn in a championship performance
nearly as often as they went onto the links, for
it has been a year-in-year-out habit of Bee
golf teams to compile highly successful
seasons.
Outstanding among its achievements were
two coveted tournament trophies, gained after
neatly outshooting the fields in the conference
meets of the Iowa collegiate loop and the
tougher match among the teams of the Midlands conference. It was the third year running that the Bees had won the Iowa Conference championship. In addition to two titles
the Ambrosians were well-up in the final rat
ings of the N.C.A.A. national tournament at
Ames. Many nice things could be said of the
7-3 record the Bees compiled in dual competition as well. Bradley was beaten twice, and
so was Western Illinois state. Teams outmatched once were Loras, Iowa State Teachers
and Cornell.
It was on strange courses that the Bee golfers suffered their setbacks. Loras, Iowa State
Teachers and Notre Dame were the victors over
St. Ambrose. Sharpshooting Jack Engler was
top man for the Bees. Others on the squad, including Engler, are the familiar names which
have carried the Bees to such a high place in
the last three years. They are Captain Bill
Olsen, Harry Achim, Bob Link, Larry Etzkorn,
Al Landauer, Bernie Steiner, and Tony Esposito.
