TRACK
The long-suffering fortunes of the St. Ambrose track team were not improved in any
way during the year of 1949. Once again it
was a matter of a small squad, inexperience,
and a not too imposing schedule. All of this is
deterred, however, by the fact that the facilities
themselves were not up to standard and that
the school did not wish to emphasize track until
the inadequacies had been corrected.
The thinly clads participated in only two
dual meets and suffered badly in both, against
the runners of Monmouth and Dubuque College. In the Midlands conference meet St.
Ambrose, thanks to Bob Bevenour and the tireless distance runner, Stephen Florescu, finished
second. Third place in the sectional meet of
the Iowa Conference completed the activity of
the squad.
Sharper emphasis and interest plus a working number of lettermen promise a resurgence
of track in 1950.
