But the venom of St. Ambrose was shortly
spent. Loras decided once and for all that the
Bees were not to occupy the top position in the
Midlands conference by edging Jim O'Connor's
men 67-66.
With only the Iowa conference to hope for,
the Bees endeavored to re-establish themselves
among the other teams. An 84-62 win over
Central, a 71-56 victory over Simpson and a
close 82-80 triumph over Dubuque set the Bees
on the right road again.
By knocking off Simpson the Bees not only
gained sweet revenge but dumped the Redmen
out of the leading spot. At Dubuque it was a
hard-earned victory, for the Ambrosians had to
race the Spartans through two overtimes to
gain the verdict. Don Morris sparkled with 28
points.
At this high point the Bees did not expect
upstart Parsons to provide the final crushing
blow of the year. But the Kelly Greens upset
the Bees 79-71, ending any hopes the Bees had
of winning undisputed possession of first place.
Cautiously pointing for the final two games of
the year, the Bees trounced Iowa Wesleyan 60-
