After the Holiday season, the Bees started
out again. Their first effort of the new year
was a cute 60-44 win over Dubuque, a team
which had been notorious at running up big
scores up to this point. It was the work of Gola
Waters and Kirby Lawlis that kept the Spartans
from doing too much damage.
It was at this point that the Bees hit the
road, for the most disastrous stage of the season. Successive losses to St. Joseph and St.
Norbert, 75-45 and 57-47 respectively, all but
cut the Bees out of any serious consideration
among the Midlands conference members. And
a loss to Parsons 67-63 put the Bees' chances in
the Iowa Conference in a very serious peril.
It was fortunate for the Ambrosians that
they were able to take a quick breath between
surprises. Following the three defeats the Ambrosians were able to breathe a little easier for
the moment. Iowa Wesleyan caught the Bees'
vengeance 82-56. Don Morris crashed all prevailing records for single game totals with 31.
