Description
The Bees started the season out well by
clipping Quincy College 69-41. Jack Donnelly
and Don Morris led the Bees to the easy victory
on the Rock Island Armory court, one of the
three home courts of the St. Ambrose team. St.
Thomas gave the Bees an early taste of defeat
by outstripping the Ambrosians 71-59. St. Ambrose wrought much of the damage on themselves by passing badly and spinning a very
weak defense. Jack Donnelly was the only colorful part of the Bee showing as he rang up a
total of 21 points. At the Davenport High
School gym the Bees entertained St. Joseph's
and for three quarters permitted their guests
to run away with the party. But a last quarter
drive, sparked by Don Morris and Howdy Poep-
sel, brought the Bees out on top by the comfortable margin of 69-56. The following engagement with Central of Pella featured the
biggest offensive blast in the history of St.
Ambrose. It was a 95-44 win for St. Ambrose,
an unmatched total to which every man on the
team contributed. Jack Donnelly's 24 points
was high.
Simpson College struck at the title complex
of the Bees with a critical victory over St. Ambrose at Indianola. For the Bees it was a matter
of fighting the Redmen on their own court, a
place where St. Ambrose teams have ever
been subjected to failure, and trying to stop
Chuck Kerr whose evening's work amounted to
32 points of the Redmen's 81-68 win.
