Description

Mr. James Resnick, chairman of the Chemistry department,
has spent much time and effort this past year in formulating
and supporting a proposal that would mean sweeping
changes and improvements in his department. The proposal
would provide for the merging of the Chemistry departments
of St. Ambrose and Marycrest Colleges. This proposal is
relevant to all aspects of each school's departmental operations, which include the Physical Science courses at both
schools, the chemistry for nurses at Marycrest, and the preparation of majors and pre-professionals at both schools. Mr.
Resnick would also like to see a departmental division between the Math and Science curriculums.
Mr. Resnick is also very involved in politics. He is Democratic chairman for Scott County and was the Democratic
candidate for mayor of Davenport in 1967.
Starting in the fall semester of 1966, the
Psychology department was organized
under the able direction of Sister Annette
Walters. Sister Annette came to her new
position at St. Ambrose with a wealth of
both knowledge and experience in the
field of psychology. Working in conjunction with Sister Annette and aiding in the
valuable work of the psychology lab are
Fr. John Dolan and Dr. John Wolf.
One of the most prominent, well-liked,
and active figures on campus is Fr. William
Dawson. This past February Father was officially allauded with a Ph.D in Philosophy
from the University of Notre Dame. Father is
active in campus affairs and is Student
Council moderator.
Fr. Dawson has been affiliated with St.
Ambrose for a number of years; he attended
school here, graduating in 1950, and was
assigned to the campus in 1961. Concerning change in the school and its students
Father has made this statement: "I see
more interest in the intellectual life, more
awareness that there is something other
than passing grades, more concern with
the world, its people and problems, and
more cooperation between faculty, administration, and students. In short, the signs
point to a St. Ambrose which is alive and
moving, and which is inviting all of us to
get with it."
