Young Democrats
Aware of the purposes of the Democrats of St. Ambrose, members responded to the call through active
participation in all Club functions.
Purposes of the Democrats are predicted on the education of members with regard to the historic objectives and philosophy of the Democratic Party. In addition, student participation in local politics was evidenced during the mayoral campaign.
Headlining the list of speakers who addressed the
Club was Ray T. O'Brien, newly-elected Mayor of
Davenport. Edwin C Gilmour, dynamic State Senator
from Grinnell, spoke to the Democrats on the volatile
subject of reapportionment in Iowa.
Socially, the Democrats' mixer featured a popular
"sing-a-long" theme. The Spring agenda promoted a
Democrat-Republican debate and a spring dinner for
all Club members.
Robert Bistan, President; George Moehlenhof, Vice-President; Dr. M. McMahan,
Moderator; Michael Gray, Secretary-Treasurer.
