INTERCOLLEGIATE
For the first time since
1959, St. Ambrose College
opened its season as an in-
tercollegiate football team.
At that time, 17 years ago,
the Bees ranked as one of the
small school powers in Ia.
Intercollegiate status
means the team is sponsored
by the college itself under
guidance of the Athletic
Board.
For the past three years,
the college has played club
football with its team financed and operated by students .

What started out as a
good season for the St.
Ambrose basketball
squad, ended with a big
disappointment for the
players, the fans and the
whole college.
Going into the final games
of their season with a 15-11
game record, the Bees found
themselves faced with having
almost all their games invalidated, and their record

Senior Phil Doherty, a guard
for the St. Ambrose basketball
squad, was named "Player of the
Weed" by the National Assoc. of
Inter-collegiate Athletics. Doherty is the first St. Ambrose
athlete ever to receive such recognition .
