Hancock (1850-1929) of Waukon, Iowa. His family moved to Waukon in 1856, where his father, Moses, worked as a butcher. His mother, Sally, raised Ellery and his nine siblings, many of whom died at an early age. His brother Frank fought in the Civil War, and died after being held a prisoner of war for over six months. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; Ellery married and raised two daughters. He learned the printing business at the Waukon Standard newspaper, and eventually owned half the paper for more than a decade. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; When printing became too physically challenging, Ellery went into the insurance business. He also served the public as Allamakee County Recorder, keeping track of land sales, court reports, etc., from 1894-1906. In 1913, he wrote the local history Past and Present of Allamakee County, Iowa: A Record of Settlement, Organization, and Achievement. Parsons grew up in Burlington during the 1870s and 1880s. His father, Albion, owned a general store. while his mother, Mary, raised Louis and older sister Ella. When Louis was 13, his father died. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt; As a boy, Louis enjoyed drawing and playing with his cousins. His interests also included technical hobbies such as photography and making electric batteries. He attended West Hill, a private school in Burlington, but a number of health problems caused him to miss one year of school. Title A name given to the resource Eve Drewelowe Digital Collection Description An account of the resource In 1924, native Iowan Eve Drewelowe received the first graduate degree in fine arts granted by The University of Iowa. She then married Jacob Van Ek, moved to Boulder, and embarked on a 13-month trip around the world that she documented in seven travel sketchbooks. After a health crisis in 1940, Drewelowe rededicated herself to her painting. Working in impressionist, social realist, and abstract expressionist styles, she has had artworks displayed nationally in solo exhibitions. Drewelowe continued to paint until her death in 1988. More recently they have found employment in Iowa's packinghouses and service sector industries. Today Iowa is home to Latinos and Latinas from many countries whose work reflects a wide range of occupations and professions. The Mujeres Latinas project of the Iowa Women's Archives has been established to collect and preserve materials including photographs, letters and oral histories to document the lives and contributions of Latinas and their families to Iowa history.
