Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Iowa State University Date A point or period of time associated with an event in the lifecycle of the resource 1923 2005-10-14 Description An account of the resource In an effort to foster class pride, VEISHEA 1923 organizers added a mock graduation Moving Up ceremony where each class advanced to the next level: seniors became alumni, juniors became seniors, sophomores became juniors, and freshmen became sophomores. Due to the harassment upperclassmen bestowed on them, those easily identifiable, beanie-clad freshmen particularly looked forward to the rite of passage bonfire where the beanies worn by every male were burned signifying they were no longer underclassmen. The ritual ended in 1934 due to lack of interest. ""The Magic of Milk"" is printed on the side of the float. Men in their dairying uniforms stand beside the float upon which seven women are seated. One woman has a child in her lap and the others are holding signs: ""Growth,"" ""Beauty,"" Laughter,"" and ""Health."" The float is topped with a giant milk bottle. See photograph 1722-3-5 for another view of the same float.
