Creator An entity primarily responsible for making the resource Chuck Russell Date A point or period of time associated with an event in the lifecycle of the resource "2009-06-10" Description An account of the resource The primary means of transportation for police officers in Oskaloosa in the early 1900's was by foot or horseback. Pictured here are three Oskaloosa police officers on patrol via horseback around 1910. Note the building construction taking place in the background. South Market Street is the setting of the background in the picture and would have been a commonly patrolled street, as most businesses were situated on this road. The mere image of the police officers would have served as a deterrent to potential robbers and thieves. Not until around 1920 did Oskaloosa get its first squad car, allowing officers to ride in more comfort and at a quicker pace. At this time, the plant would process over one thousand hogs per day, making it a thriving operation at the time.
