An account of the resource
Built in 1852 in Garnavillo Township in the southeast quarter of the northwest quarter of section 16-93-3 about one mile east of Garnavillo near Buck Creek on the road to Clayton, Iowa. Purchased from the Government by Benjamin F. Forbes. The mill started as a sawmill and later was turned into a flouring mill in 1857 by John Tangeman. The photo was taken in the time period of 1860s which was then called Tangeman's Mill. For more information about this mill and owners, please contact the Garnavillo Public Library.

Note the Harness shop on the corner. The men in the photo are identified as: George Hill, Unknown man, John Possehl and Roy Nelson. Later the highway was renamed to Highway 52.
