Description
An account of the resource
Barton, a nurse, tended to the wounded on the battlefields of the Civil War, eventually being put in charge of hospitals and of locating missing Union soldiers. After the war she became active in women's suffrage and civil rights movements and was instrumental in founding the American Red Cross.
